In the course of my various states of employment (all at the same place but with different roles) I have learned to use a variety of programs as well as key technologies that some of the said programs utilize.
Here is a list of the various stuff that clogs up my puny little brain ...WARNING! Gratuitous verbal diarrhea ahead.
Cinema4d
Bodypaint - Texturing/UV unwrapping
Advanced Render - Rendering
Mocca - Character Animation
I have good modeling skills of organic and inorganic models using the polygon face/edge/points modeling tools of Cinema. I am able to accurately uv texture models in Bodypaint as well as use of standard shaders to good effect.. I have an understanding of lighting setups using traditional lights (spotlight, omni) as well as HDRI lighting. I know basic timeline animation. I have used Cinema's inbuilt cell render export to render models in vector format for use within Flash for projects. My Achilles heal is animation but I will get there eventually, I have the rest of my life to practice :)
Dreamweaver
I have been using Dreamweaver for many years now (since version 3) and along the way I have learned most of its ins and outs. Initially I used Dreamweaver to edit basic html pages but in 1998 all of our London sites made the switch over to ASP (for the purposes of our adserver) and then (MUCH) later on to asp.net (which runs all of our feed from our cms).
Bottom line, its a good wysiwyg tool that does the job but knowledge of the underlying technologies that it incorporates is much more important.
Fireworks
I have been using Fireworks since version 2 to optimize graphics (achieving a balance between quality and download times... not really of great importance anymore but its a hard habit for me to break) for the web. I primarily use it for that function as well as to slice up artwork that has been prepared in Photoshop. I have moved away from using Fireworks generated effects and instead just like to export the pieces and remake the effect in Dreamweaver using divs / css & some Javascript, I have found this way to be more efficient code wise and reduces the size of the html by getting rid of unnecessary markup..
Xhtml / Css /Accessibility / Xml
I started learning how to make Xhtml compliant markup a fair few years ago with the aid of the w3c validator, prior to this my markup lacked any standards base. Over time I built up an understanding of the shortcomings of various browsers implementation of CSS and learned to accommodate them (except IE 5 for the Mac, there is no hope for it...it must be erradicated from existance!).
I used to test sites with Bobby Watchfire (no longer free, which is a shame :( ) to see how well they stack up for accessibility purposes, which not only allows for access to the site by disabled people it also goes hand in hand with good SEO practices. I use browsercamp to test on Safari (osx) and I have also started testing in Google Chrome, iPad and iPhone. Xml at its heart it is nothing more than a standardized means of marking up information while retaining a relational structure. We use it more and more now in my daily working life.
I even test in the Lynx browser, which is as close as a seeing person can get to an approximation of understanding how your site is 'viewed' by a non seeing person.
Photoshop
I started using Photoshop on version 2.5 in secondary school on a Performa 6200 (Apple Mac). I then went on to learn it as a core application of my NVQ L2 studies (Design & IT) at Central Academy in Wharf Road. Upon leaving that college I walked straight into a job at the Ham&High Express newspaper in 1997 where I worked in the production department for a year creating adverts for the paper before I was asked it I wanted to switch to working on their website fulltime, more fool them :). My Photoshop 'duties' at the time involved scanning, retouching photos, making collages and various other eye candy effects for artwork or to go alongside editorial pieces and setting up batch processing commands. I more than occasionally use it just for fun.
Quark
I started using quark 3.1 as a core application of my NVQ L2 studies (Design & IT) at Central Academy in Wharf Road. Within my production job & the Ham&High I used it to setup page layouts using master sheets, style sheets and custom colours, my primary job within production with to make up the Classifieds/Sits Vac and public & legal pages which involved creating all of the small ads and bringing them all together onto the final page alongside our linage. Proficient up to current versions.
Flash/Actionscript
I haven't really gone beyond the basics in Flash, I have mostly used it for low bandwidth banners, skyscrapers & buttons for use on our Archant London sites. Up till now that is... I have future plans for flash projects but these require more actionscript knowledge before I can attempt them (basically, GAMES!).
Blender
Purchased 'The Official Blender guide' and working though it, finding it quite hard to get to grips with as everything is completely different to my workflow in Cinema4d, I originally purchased the book to have a go at its character animation (which I cannot do in Cinema unless I purchase the Mocca module) but I am finding it harder than I thought I would using a different application, just need some time and a little patience to get up to speed.
Illustrator
In my production days at the Ham&High I used it mainly for recreating logos from poor quality sources and tracing maps/floor plans and creating graphical charts. These days I just use it for creating high quality splines for use with Cinema 4d for the creation of complex 3d shapes using extrude, lathe, loft & sweep nurbs. I prefer using Illustrator to CInema for the production of splines as it is far more intuitive and accurate with a greater level of control. I have been branching out lately and using it to create proper artwork (as the artwork/skin of this site should attest to).
Classic ASP (vbscript)
Can declare and populate variables, pass the results to another page, use basic operators (numerical, logical & comparison) to check the values of the variables & also perform string manipulation. My typical uses for this are for multiple choice quizzes or for checking the validity of data in forms. I can also do select case arguments on server variables or any other type of variable for the purposes of redirection or writing case specific content to the page. All hand coded within Dreamweaver. I still need to regularly refer to manuals for this sort of work as I do not do it often enough... Admittedly, what I know is pretty basic stuff... also, I suck at regular expression.
Javascript / Jquery etc
Javascript is very slowly being replaced by jquery (being a much tidied up version of the former) or all the other frameworks out there which sit on top of it... which is a good thing as code branching for umpteen browsers was a sin against humanity. I consider myself to be a little beyond beginner status.
Ms Office
Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint... you know, the usual boring stuff :)
Visual Studio 2008
I use it mainly for web development for websites that require server interatction to perform functions. I am very slowly learning vb.net (being a vbscript person this seemed the easy choice), once I gain an aceptable level of proficiency I may branch out to c# as I have been told that once you understand the meaning behind the various bits of code you can apply what you know to any language. Regardless... I still suck at regular expression, some of the complex ones make my head hurt.
Structured Query Language (sql)
Basic Knowledge, able to perform c.r.u.d (create, read, update & delete, anything more complex than that and usually have to look online. Definately need to set aside some time to learn more.
Adobe Premiere
Done a few projects within it, my last one was displayed on the massive screen outside the O2 dome, which was nice :) Current duties at work largely involve just converting video, which seems a little bit of a waste.
ZBrush
Completely different way of modelling.. Having some trouble getting my head wrapped round it.
Really, really sorry if you read through all that... there is a tonne of other stuff but I won't torture people with writing it all down.
